Heat your oven to 350°F. Put parchment paper on two cookie sheets.

Beat the room temperature butter with white and brown sugars in a big bowl until it looks pale and fluffy.

Mix the general-purpose flour and salt together in another bowl.

Slowly add your flour mixture into the butter mixture, stirring just until everything comes together.

Drop equal amounts of dough onto your lined cookie sheets with space in between. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes until the edges turn golden brown.

Take cookies out and let them cool all the way on a wire cooling rack.

If you want icing, mix confectioners' sugar with a tiny bit of water or milk until it's runny but thick. Dribble it over the completely cooled cookies.
