Add olive oil to a 4-5 litre sauté pan, heating it up on medium-high.

Toss in the sliced sausage and diced onions. Cook until the sausage gets a nice color and the onions soften.

Quickly mix in the minced garlic and stir it around for about 30 seconds, just until it smells fragrant.

Pour in the chicken broth, diced tomatoes (with their liquid), dry pasta, milk or cream, salt, and black pepper. Combine everything by giving it a good stir.

Turn the heat down to a gentle simmer. Let it cook without a lid for 15 minutes. Stir it now and then until the pasta soaks up the flavors and the sauce thickens.

Take the pan off the heat and mix in half the shredded cheese. Keep stirring till it's melted and smooth.

Spread the rest of the cheese on top, put a lid on, and let it melt till it's bubbly with a light golden color. Sprinkle scallions as a finishing touch and serve immediately.
