Savory casserole with onion, ground beef, and rice. Cozy comfort food, easy to bake and customize.

# Ingredients You’ll Need:

→ Main Components

01 - 1 pound lean ground beef
02 - 0.5 to 1 teaspoon garlic salt
03 - 2 cans (10.5 ounces each) beef consommé
04 - 2 cans (10.5 ounces each) French onion soup
05 - 0.75 cup water
06 - 2 cups uncooked long grain white rice
07 - 0.75 cup butter

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly coat a 9x13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
02 - Add ground beef and garlic salt to a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking apart the meat, until fully browned and no longer pink.
03 - Transfer the uncooked rice and the cooked ground beef to the prepared baking dish. Pour in the beef consommé, French onion soup, and water. Stir thoroughly until evenly distributed.
04 - Slice the butter and arrange evenly over the top of the mixture in the baking dish.
05 - Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
06 - Remove the foil and return the dish to the oven. Bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes. Optional: In the last 10 minutes, add shredded cheese or a crunchy topping if desired.
07 - Remove from the oven. Fluff the casserole with a fork and serve while hot.

# Extra Suggestions:

01 - For a one-pot method, use a Dutch oven or large cast iron skillet for both stovetop and oven steps to minimize cleanup.
02 - For a cheesy casserole, add 1.5 cups shredded provolone, Swiss, or mozzarella cheese during the last 10 minutes of baking.
03 - For extra crunch, add crispy fried onions or jalapeño slices with or without cheese, and bake until golden.
