Char Siu Chicken Chinese BBQ (Printable Version)

# What You’ll Need:

01 - 1.75 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
02 - 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
03 - 2 tablespoons honey
04 - 1 tablespoon soy sauce
05 - 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
06 - 1 tablespoon ketchup
07 - 2 teaspoons sesame oil
08 - 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
09 - 1 clove garlic, minced
10 - ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger
11 - ½ teaspoon salt
12 - A few drops of red food coloring

# Steps to Follow:

01 - In a bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, oyster sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, salt, and red food coloring (if using).
02 - Add chicken thighs to the marinade and mix until fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for deeper flavor.
03 - Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Grill the chicken for 5–7 minutes per side, brushing with extra marinade during the last few minutes, until slightly charred and cooked through.
04 - Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with foil and place a rack on top. Lay marinated chicken on the rack and bake for 25–30 minutes, basting with marinade halfway through. For extra caramelization, broil for the last 2–3 minutes.
05 - Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or stir-fried vegetables.

# Additional Notes:

01 - Use boneless chicken thighs for the best flavor and tenderness.
02 - Marinate overnight for extra depth.
03 - Add red food coloring if you want the classic char siu color.
04 - For a smoky flavor, grill over charcoal.
