Set oven to 425°F and allow to fully preheat.

While the puff pastry thaws, core and slice the apples thinly. In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and kosher salt.

Place thawed puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cut into six equal rectangles and prick the center of each piece several times with a fork, leaving a small border for puffing.

Arrange apple slices in a row down the center of each rectangle, overlapping slightly. Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apples. Top each pastry with one slice of butter.

Transfer tray to the oven and bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until pastry is golden and puffed.

Remove pastries from oven. Generously drizzle with caramel sauce and serve warm, with vanilla ice cream if desired.
